It has been over a YEAR since my last blog post.
As this has been extremely over due, WELCOME BACK!
Where have we been literally is DALLAS TEXAS!!
Okay now we were only in Texas for a week… the rest of the year was a whirlwind. I started and ended a career management position in the past year which occupied 90% of my time and was a main component that led to this blog being put on the back burner. Now that I have been back to giving my family 100% of my effort and time, we have been on many adventures and my only regret is letting this slip through the cracks of our busy life. I could not be happier to be back and writing/creating.
Something that I have really came to terms with in the past year is that it is not worth it to miss out on living life with your family just to make a living. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to stay home with Abigail and Liam and I have learned to take advantage of this opportunity. Since July, we have made countless day trips to the beach and to the lake. We even splurged and purchased our own kayaks so that we can explore the outdoors in a way that Abigail is able to enjoy as well! The most recent trip that we took was at the end of July, where Abigail and I went on a 22 hour road trip to visit my family in Dallas Texas! For the first time in 2 years it was just me and my girl. The past two months have been the best time as a family that we have had in an entire year. I am so grateful to experience these adventures with them.
We have been home for a little over a two weeks now and as I am settling back into life at home, I desperately wanted to pick back up where I left off with this site. There is just something about sitting down and sharing my thoughts, feelings, and all of Abigail’s progress that helps me stay positive during the struggles and reminds me of how far we have came in weeks/months/years.
So without further ado, here is an update on Abigail Grace!
NEW BRACES: So one of the bigger changes that have happened in the past year was Abby’s graduation (and out growing) of her previous ankle-foot orthotics! Abigail previously had DAFO 3.5’s. Abby’s physical therapist or orthopedic specialist chose this type of brace to prevent her from the habit of hyper-extending her knees when standing and walking, and to assist with stability. As Abigail’s feet have grown, it was time for her to be casted for a new set! This time, Abigail received DAFO 2’s which allow her to use her ankle and calf muscles rather than solely relying on the brace for this motion. The orthopedic specialist saw significant improvement in Abigail which is why she suggested a little less invasive brace. (The new orthotics will still strongly assist in avoiding hyper-extending). Abigail proudly picked yellow and pink for the customization and we even lucked out with some cute shoes that do fit over them! Special Needs Mom Win!!!

STANDING INDEPENDENTLY: Abigail has made so much progress with this. Between her strength she has worked so hard for and her new braces that I mentioned above, she has increased her standing endurance from 5-10 seconds to 50-60 seconds!! A huge step in a great direction! We are so proud of her!!
EQUIPMENT: Abigail is still using her walker at home and out around the world with us. In therapy she uses two canes with assistance from physical therapist, Abby is not quite ready to control these on her own. As for future equipment, I will be writing an post specifically on that topic so stay tuned for an emotional one….
In addition to picking back up this platform, I am also officially starting our YouTube channel!! You can view our Meet Abigail Grace video now by following this link:
